WHAT FILE TYPES DOES MIXO SUPPORT?
MIXO Supports Audio Formats: MP3, WAV, AIFF, FLAC, AAC, ALAC, OGG, M4P, MP4
MIXO Supports Video Formats: AVI, MOV, OGV (audio playable in MIXO)
MP3
A lossy format where the audio is compressed in order to achieve smaller file sizes. Convenient because of the small file size but can suffer in quality.
M4A AAC
M4A is generally encoded using AAC, a lossy format developed by Apple and used as the main encoding format in iTunes and other Apple apps. AAC can achieve greater compression at the same bitrate as MP3, resulting in smaller file sizes. It uses the .m4a extension.
M4A ALAC
M4A ALAC is the same as M4A AAC, but it uses the Apple Lossless codec instead of AAC and the .m4a extension.
WAV
CDs use this lossless format as the standard. This format has great quality, but it also means big files and poor support for metadata.
OGG
An open-source, patent-free alternative to MP3 and AAC, sometimes known as OGG Vorbis. Used by Spotify for streaming.
FLAC
A lossless alternative to WAV with smaller file sizes and metadata support. It is not supported by Apple, however, so it cannot be used with iTunes.
AIFF
An uncompressed format developed by Apple and is comparable to WAV files.
M4P AAC
M4P AAC is the same as M4A AAC, but it's copy-protected. Uses the .m4p extension
MP4
Although this is a video format, MIXO can import and play the audio.
