Library not sorting properly....

Welp. I came home to work on music and suddenly my library is combining date and alphabetical. I've been just able to click on date added and it sorts properly. Suddenly it's not showing my latest tracks when I click date added. I'm surely missing a search filter or something? Thanks!

Ok. Just to add. They're sorting properly on my other devices. Just not on my main DJ laptop. Very odd

And it gets more weird. I added some new songs to see what would happen. The sorting is still weird but also it added random songs that I didn't add. Feeling frustrated.

Are you still using the beta v2.19.2 or back to the main 2.19.0 release?

Please try this version:
https://www.mixo.dj/download/beta-v2/MIXO-2.19.6.dmg

If that's the same, try installing v2.19.0 from the website and let me know the outcome.

Sadly, no luck. Thanks for helping. Put the beta and it's still trying to sort files alphabetically instead of by the date added. My iTunes/Music files are sorting just fine, so I don't understand what's happening. : / I went back to the stable release and it's still happening.

0

And just to add to it, the mobile app on phone is sorting a whole different way and not right either. What is possibly happening here?

0

At the end of the day I just want it to sort the songs in the order they are in iTunes, which is the order I add them.

0

Ah maybe that's because Added is all the same (that's when you added them to MIXO).

You want the "DateAdded" column, which should be the date you imported them into iTunes.

And for playlists; sort by the # column for the correct order.

0

Sadly, Date Added is what I'm using. : ( I love this program so much, btw!

Do I need to try one of the reset options? I don't understand what's happened. It was sorting perfectly on all devices a couple days ago. Now it's like each one has a mind of its own.

I've attached how different things are.....

This is of course iTunes on the left Mixo on the right

0

And did you try the download from the website? I think the beta does actually contain some sorting changes

0

I did go back to the stable download on the website. It didn't alter anything noticeable.

0

Surely playlist tracks are in the correct order when sorted by the # column?

Are you only talking about All Tracks?

0

Playlist tracks seem fine. Yes, this is the All Tracks section. But that's how I build my playlists, so having them in the order I add stuff is pretty important.

0

I did notice that the date in MIXO is Europe style, DD/MM/YYYY but it should be specific to the region so I'll fix that to be more US-friendly (MM/DD/YYYY).

But that should not affect the sort. In MIXO it looks like you are missing the latest tracks imported into iTunes on 6th October. Are they actually in MIXO?

Here’s a very special beta:
https://www.mixo.dj/download/beta-v2/MIXO-2.19.7.dmg

It’s a new build system that’s lightning fast so please do let me know if something doesn’t work.

But the display date should be in your locale format now and possibly the sorting will be more accurate.

0

Thanks for addressing that. I did notice it. Yes, the songs are there - just sorted to random places.

0

Even in the new beta?

0

Try clicking the DateAdded a couple of times to ensure it sorts in reverse and back again.

Let me know if there are still dates in the wrong place and send me a screenshot if possible.

0

It only gets weirder in the beta ... I've clicked and re-clicked everything that can be clicked. So many times.

Ok please send me your iTunes XML that you’ve been importing and I’ll see if I can replicate.

You can upload your file here:

Ok, when I get home tonight I will get that to you! Thank you!!

Oh hey, I don't know how I missed this from you earlier! Thank you for doing that so fast! I will give this a try right now and see what happens!

Strange. When I clicked on it it just download the 2.19.0 version. ?

0

Strange! When I clicked to download it, it just downloaded 2.19.0. ?

0

Ok, look like you pulled it?

0

Sorry for the double post. It wasn't updating the thread so I thought it didn't go through. I tried to download the .7 version but looks like you may have pulled it? Thank you for the help!

0

Oh sorry about that. Try it now!

0

Also, I can't open your Music library - you need to export to XML like usual.

0

Thanks!

0

Ok I fixed the upload, sorry about that! Also got the .7 download. After installing, the very latest files I just updated tonight in iTunes ARE showing properly as the most recent additions in Mixo! BUT, right after those files end it goes back to being off the rails (random and not in the right 'date added' order). Maybe on the right track? Thanks!!

0

Nope! Ok. I was wrong. Only SOME of the songs are showing that I added. : / I guess see what you see in the XML file. As noted earlier, the songs show in the proper order in iTunes itself. Sigh.

0

And to confirm. I mean, showing in the right order. It did add all of the songs.

0

Lord I wish I could delete comments. lol. Ok after re-sorting the files the latest tracks I added tonight DO show in the right order. But as mentioned, after that. Off the rails.

0

Ok, I'm going to bed. I closed the program and re-opened. Upon reopening the files that were in the right order are now gone. I can sort and re-sort. Only one track shows at the top. Worth noting. If I sort by Title, if will shift some of those to the top when I then sort by Date Added. But when I just sort again those tracks disappear and we're back to just the single track being right. Definitely something going on.

0

No worries, I'll sort it! I'm also seeing weird results.

1

Ok I think I've fixed it now!

- Either Release Date, Created or Date Added were randomly getting saved to the DateAdded field in MIXO! That's fixed.
- I've also improved the sorting logic for dates.

So all you need to do is reimport your latest XML from iTunes in the beta version below and (fingers crossed) it should be good.

https://www.mixo.dj/download/beta-v2/MIXO-2.19.9.dmg

Let me know!

1

Ok, first off - thank you for the effort! Greatly appreciate the hard work to figure this out! I think we're on the right track! I uploaded a video for you to check out. The most recent songs I added on 10/08 are there and in the right order. After that, the next 150 tracks are still in a weird place. Not the correct order. But then after that it gets back on track again! There might be a few stragglers along the way that I'm just missing that are also in the wrong spot. At the very end of the track list, there are a couple of songs that are not in the right spot, but again, that is no big deal. But it still might point to something that's going on. The ones I selected (highlighted in red (orange?) are the ones that are still wrong. Honestly, at the end of the day, this is way better than it was. I would still love to figure out why it's placing those 150 tracks in the wrong spot, but if everything from here on out is in the correct order, I think I can look past that. Still, though, it will nag at me that, for some reason, it might start happening again, or maybe with certain types of files. I don't know. Maybe you can look at those files and see if there's something specific about them that might be causing this and still maybe fix it? Either way, definitely on the right path!! Thanks again!

The difference is MIXO's secondary sort is using Title whereas iTunes appears to be using Artist.

Secondary sort only happens when the primary values compare equal, however, it follows the same order pattern (descending/ascending), so maybe I'll change that so the secondary is always ascending A-Z.

But changing the secondary sort from Title to Artist is a personal preference and changes the way the sort works entirely.

1

Got it! Maybe could be an option to follow iTunes? Any thoughts on the 150 tracks? I can't figure out the rhyme or reason those are where they are.

0

If there are 150 tracks with identical DateAdded values, they will be ordered in reverse based on Title, although I'm changing that to Ascending order.

Ahhh yes. I gotcha!
